Anna Parr-Modrzejewska is a graduate of Łódź University and a PhD student at Zakład Psycholingwistyki i Dydaktyki Języka Angielskiego where she is currently working on her dissertation on CLIL in early years education. She has been a dedicated teacher of all levels and age groups since 2001. Her favourite pupils however, are last year secondary school students preparing for their final exam. Anna has been working as a Director of Studies at Profi-Lingua language school in Łódź since 2005. At academic level Anna teaches practical English, translation and conversation but she specialises in introducing students to the enchanted world of language teaching and helping them understand that teachers change the world. Anna also has two BA diplomas, in Polish and in Early Years Education, which helps her understand the learning process, especially in children. Her professional interests include teacher training, exam courses and bilingual education.

Which Matura tasks do your students struggle with the most? How can we help them to improve in the areas they find most challenging, and at the same time encourage them feel positive about the process of preparing for Matura? Working with the most recent details of nationwide performance in the exam, this highly practical session will attempt to deal with these important questions. During the workshop, we will remind ourselves of some of the aspects of the new Matura format and task types, and see how the 3 Ms – Motivation, Memorisation and Meaningful context and practice can work together to prepare for a successful performance on the big day. The session will contain lots of easy to prepare practical ideas and tips, and will be illustrated with material taken from Pearson’s new Matura Focus course.

Grzegorz Śpiewak holds a double MA in English & Linguistics (University of Essex, UK and University of Warsaw) and a PhD in Linguistics (University of Warsaw 2000). He has been a lecturer at the institute of English Studies, University of Warsaw since 1992, Head ELT Consultant for Macmillan Polska, teacher trainer, methodology adviser, ELT materials' writer, former president of IATEFL-Poland, founder and president of DOS-Teacher Training Solutions.

We’ll devote some time to the micro-level tricks of the trade, such as drilling grammar and vocabulary with songs and stories, or activating the students as a whole group with TPR or short dramas. We’ll also consider macro-level teaching strategies, such as organizing whole-class-friendly learning and balancing between learner-centred and teacher-guided classroom.
