W dniach 5–9 października British Council organizuje po raz pierwszy globalną konferencję online poświęconą tematyce ustawicznego rozwoju zawodowego nauczycieli (continuing professional development – CPD). Na program konferencji składa się ponad 60 sesji prowadzonych przez prelegentów z całego świata oraz panele dyskusyjne.

Edouard Creemers, Renate Thummler Blum - CT and Technology as part of 21st Century Skills

The 21st century ELT classroom is more globally oriented and interconnected. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare learners to communicate across cultures, negotiate meaning, handle ambiguity, discover different perspectives and follow Critical Thinking (CT) with the aid of technology.

We will look at on-line learning, blended learning and flipping the classroom, and how you can make a start implementing them. We will also check why it is important to train teachers in order for them to make the classes more student-centred and not teacher centred. We will discuss what exactly a cultivated Critical Thinker is, followed by how we can become critical thinkers ourselves and how to incorporate CT in the teaching/learning process. Examples of and strategies on how to incorporate CT will be presented.

About the speakers:

Edouard F.H. Creemers has taught for over 12 years, General English, Business English and has prepared many students for Cambridge exams such as the FCE and CAE, as well as the BEC (Business English Certificate). He has his own Business English academy to which transnational companies are client. He is also involved in teacher training; such as TKT, CiSELT and CET courses, mainly online and globally. He holds the ICELT, Diploma in Teaching ESP (English for Specific Purposes), e-tutor diploma and the e-moderators essentials. He has been delivering conferences at international teachers´ congresses, as well as having talks and workshops with English teachers.

Dip. R.S.A Renate M. Thummler Blum holds an MD in Veterinary Science teaching ESP courses at the Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia/UNAM. She is also a freelance teacher trainer both F2F and on-line and academic consultant. Since August 2001 she has been the editor to the English Language Teachers Contact Scheme (ELTeCS) Latin America and the Caribbean. She is an Academic Consultant for the British Council and a certified examiner for Cambridge ESOL. At CENEVAL she is a BA in TESOL certifying panel member. Affiliation: British Council Consultant and Teacher at the Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria UNAM.
