More than 133,000,000 blogs have been indexed by
Technorati (blog search engine) since 2002 and around
77% of Internet users read blogs according to Universal
McCann. Blog is an abbreviated version of weblog, a term used
to describe websites maintained by an individual with regular
entries that keep an ongoing chronicle of information. Blogs range
from the personal to the political and can focus on one narrow
subject or a whole range of subjects. To cut a long story short, we
have mothballed pens and diaries in favour of diary-type daily
commentaries run on websites. Blog can also be used as a verb,
meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Looking at blog phenomenon closer, we come to the conclusion
that it was a fate for teachers as we won a new, handy and
functional instrument to be at our disposal while teaching. Alicja
Wujec Kaczmarek in her article Writing to blog, blogging to write
presents blogs related to education, known as edublogs. Since, man
does not live by BLOG alone, The Teacher prepared other articles
for our readers.

London on my mind-authentic materials in the service of the ELT
by Magorzata Neckowicz, takes us on a trip around London and
offers six routes to choose from. Each route is a source of excellent
authentic material to use in a lesson on London. The presented
idea is worth expanding on other cities and places when we wish
to teach English from realia and prepare an adventurous lesson.

And where is a better place to find realia than in an English pub?.
Next stop in our journey is organized by Jacek Wasilewski. His
article, English language and pub etiquette, focuses on the
characteristics of the English language and the selected pub
manners. Author highlights the importance of cultural variety,
which influences the process of learning and teaching. He also
points to the selected aspects of pragmatics and its significance in
language communication between speakers of different languages.

Finally, we find pleasure in revealing the results of the writing
competition An American/British place which enslaved my soul
announced a few months ago, by The Teacher Magazine and
English for You - jezykangielski.org. The competition produced
about 250 essays and the winning work, published in this issue
of the magazine, was written by Elbieta Wiktoria Przygrodzka.
