Affective Routes to Effective Learning. Michael Tomlinson will be discussing the fundamental differences between traditional and more modern approaches to teaching English, and asking to what extent ‘affective’ teaching can be integrated into the average classroom. Using the new ‘Primary Kid’s Box’/ ‘Kids Box’ series for young learners from Cambridge University Press, Michael Tomlinson will illustrate some affective teaching techniques in action, involving the audience and giving plenty of ideas on how to make your own lessons more affective and effective. – prezentacja w języku angielskim
Prowadzący:
Michael Tomlinson has been teaching English since 1989. He has worked in the UK, Turkey, Spain and Sweden, with students ranging from children to adults and from beginner to proficiency level. He is currently a teacher and Director of Studies at Star English, Murcia. His latest publications for Cambridge University Press are Kid's Box/Primary Kid’s Box, co-authored with Caroline Nixon.

Tools for Teaching Teenagers, or fitting round pegs into square holes.
After discussing the challenge of teaching teenagers and the place of supplementary materials in -- and outside -- the classroom, we’ll try out activities from various ‘tools’ for teaching teenagers: Cambridge Discovery Readers for extensive ‘pleasure’ reading; Cambridge Learner’s Dictionaries; and Cambridge Copy Collection titles including Teen World for multi-level photocopiable activities for teenagers. We will also look at English in Mind Exam edition Classware for teachers to use in the classroom with an Interactive WhiteBoard, a Mimio, e-beam – or just a data projector and a wall. Our goal will be to have some serious fun while providing participants with practical ideas for using such ‘tools’ to better fit their students (the ‘round pegs’) into their courses (the ‘square holes’).

Prowadzący:

Gary Anderson was Pedagogical Director of the language program of the former American Center in Paris where he taught and co-ordinated classes for all ages of learners. He was President-elect of TESOL France when he joined Cambridge University Press as International Teacher Trainer based in Paris. He has given talks and workshops in over 50 countries on five continents, including at TESOL International and IATEFL UK; this is his fourth visit to Poland for Cambridge ELT.
