Personalising the Exam – Peter Moran
Have you ever caught yourself apologising to your class for a dull lesson with the words 'I'm sorry, but we have to do it for the exam'? The very words 'exam preparation' call to mind dull transformation exercises and lists of vocabulary to memorise. In this session we shall attempt to banish such thoughts! Exam preparation can and should be fun and motivating, personalised and creative. We will look at how this can be achieved with reference to the Matura Podstawowa. The session will include many practical tasks and activities for classroom use.

Motivation Brings Success – Peter Moran
Motivation is a key to learning successfully, especially at intermediate levels when progress is less apparent and the threat of examinations looms large. This session will look at how we can build our students' motivation and maintain it across language work, skills development and cultural and social knowledge and awareness. The session will include examples of activities and techniques which you can use to build and maintain motivation in your classrooms.

Matura Without Tears – Rob Dean
How is an exam preparation class different to a general English class? What are the implications for teachers and learners alike? We will aim to present some practical ways in which we can prepare learners for the various exam task types they will encounter at Matura without them feeling it is all about the exam. The session will be practical in nature and will draw upon material from the new Pearson Longman course Matura Podstawowa.

Motivation – the Key to Success – Rob Dean
Exploring motivation so that it stays in rather than outside the classroom? Too good to be true? If we consider the barriers to motivation we will find ways to overcome these. Providing relevance, personalisation, engagement and opportunities for learner development will bring us home. The talk will be illustrated with material from the Pearson Longman course Success and show that the upper secondary learning curve that ends with matura need not be a dull and mechanical process.

Strategies for Matura – Piotr Steinbrich
We now know a lot about Matura. The awareness of which parts of the exam are easy to address by the learners and which are still problematic helps us in redirecting the preparation process towards those areas in which students’ performance is below par. In this talk, we will look at how to develop in the learner such exam strategies which will allow them to attend to the seemingly problematic aspects of Matura Podstawowa.

Here Comes Success – Piotr Steinbrich
Although the teaching of foreign languages in secondary school is geared towards Matura, it is still necessary to strike the balance between preparing the learners for the final exam and the learning process itself. This presentation will address the issue of balancing the two, showing that much of what we consider teaching General English is in accordance with developing necessary exam skills
