Cool Britannia


Exploring what ‘cool’ means in English we will look at the traditions and cultural practices of modern Britain. We will study music from The Beatles, The Smiths, The Sex Pistols and Pete Docherty, and try to find what is cool in their lyrics and performances. We will then try and recreate our own ‘Cool Britannia’ personas for the purposes of creating some fun digital Polaroid photos. We will also study contemporary and vintage fashion through reading the fashion and lifestyle blog www.eightlondon.blogspot.com and Through all of this hopefully we we will learn exactly what the word cool means in English, learn some other ‘cool’ slang words and how to truly ‘be cool’ when you visit England. Since England is influenced so much by tradition a lot of what is cool is based on past or “vintage” trends. Thus this workshop will deal heavily with various forms of the past tense as well as new vocabulary and functional language and attempt to locate it within an eccentrically English setting.

Mitchell Cooper, pochodzi z Wielkiej Brytanii, swoją karierę rozpoczął w wieku 13 lat jako wolontariusz w centrum żeglarskim, a kontynuował między innymi pracując w letnich szkołach organizując czas wolny i zapewniając opiekę międzynarodowym grupom liczącym nawet do 500 dzieci. Nauczycielskie doświadczenie zdobył pracując z trudną młodzieżą w Leeds City School. Ta praca nauczyła go zdobywania szacunku u młodych ludzi i budowania wspólnego zaufania, a także zachęciła go do zdobycia kwalifikacji do nauczania języka angielskiego CELTA. Język angielski stał się jego wielką pasją, dzięki której doskonale spełnia się w roli nauczyciela.
