Nauczycieli klas 1-3 chcemy wprowadzić rzetelnie w projekt Nowej Podstawy Programowej. Naszym celem jest pokazanie, co zmieni się już wkrótce w Państwa codziennej pracy z dziećmi i jak skutecznie stawić czoła nowym realiom, mając do dyspozycji kurs Bugs World, następcę rewelacyjnie przyjętej serii Bugs, w tym zwłaszcza dwa zeszyty ćwiczeń do każdej części podręcznika, umożliwiające pracę zarówno z sześcio-, jak i siedmiolatkami. Ponadto w 4 miastach (Lublinie, Katowicach, Sopocie i Warszawie) zaprezentujemy szereg pomysłów na uatrakcyjnienie pracy z dziećmi mając na uwadze ich wszechstronny rozwój. Podkreślimy znaczenie korelacji treści międzyprzedmiotowych oraz zagadnień kulturowych w nauczaniu języka obcego.

Cultural and interdisciplinary competence - a luxury or a necessity?
We all know that of all the competences the learners at this level are to acquire, communicative competence is probably the most desirable. After all, learners’ progress is measured by how much language they can produce, be it a short exchange, a rhyme or a song. However, by devoting most of our classroom time to vocabulary and functional language practice to enhance productive skills, we often concentrate less on two other aspects: teaching ‘culture’ and cross-curricular education, both of which are emphasised quite strongly in the new ‘Podstawa Programowa’ for this age group.
The question is, do 7-9 year olds need to know more about the culture of English-speaking countries or cultural diversity as such? Will integrated learning help us interest our young learners in English even more?
My main point in this practical session will be that by not exploiting culture and general knowledge in the primary classroom, we deprive ourselves of a very motivating tool!

The perfect lesson
This talk starts with stories of great lessons. Stories told by teachers remembering their own schooldays and lessons where they felt this was the moment they really learnt and understood something. What was it about these lessons that made them stick in the mind ten, twenty, thirty years later? Why were these lessons memorable and others forgotten? What made them so special? Do these lessons have common factors; some kind of ‘secret ingredient' which, if we could identify it, would lead us to make our own lessons more perfect?
The second part of this highly practical talk will look in some detail at creative teaching activities which teachers can use in their classroom to help ensure their students remain interested and motivated throughout the lesson, remember what they have learnt long after the lesson is over, and take an active and creative part in what goes on in the classroom.
