Exam classes: 5 things teachers need to do & 5 things students need to know
Elaine Boyd
This talk will look at ten things that can help your students
in exam preparation classes. First, we will look at five things
that teachers need to do in order to get the best from
their students. Then we will consider ways of developing
five key skills which your students need to know in order
to do well in exams.
Elaine Boyd writes, teaches and examines English language material. She has completed a PhD In Linguistics and has taught English for over 20 years in Italy, Spain and the UK.

She has also been an examiner, both In the UK and abroad, and has written a wide range of exam
material for over 15 years. She has particular expertise in Writing, Listening and Speaking exams. Elaine is from London but currently lives in Cardiff, where she maliny writes material for publication as well as for exams. She also does occasional teaching at Cardiff University.

This talk will show how students at upper-intermediate and advanced levels can be motivated and challenged to develop skills essential
for real-life situations, whether work or further education. The focus will be on the productive skills of speaking and writing, and will include ideas on how to make exam preparation fun.
Jan Bell got an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Reading, and spent 8 years in Italy, teaching and teacher training for the British Council in Naples. Her work also included training and assessing for the Diploma for Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults, and writing training courses and training teachers for Distance Training Methodology Projects. She spent 10 years at the Bell College in Saffron Walden. She taught a variety of English courses to adults and ran methodology and language courses for teachers from all over the world.
