The gimnazjum exam is the first ‘serious’ exam that our learners encounter, and it falls in the middle of a number of stages of transition – transition from child to teenager; transition from primary to high school – and transition from simple tests to more demanding exams. So what will our learners need if they are going to maximise their chances of success? This highly practical session will attempt to answer this question, and will consider ways of integrating language development, exam practice and exam strategy as they gear up for
a new challenge in their learning career.

How can we help our students sound natural when they speak in English? How can we help them understand natural speech? How important is it for the language we present in class to be natural? Does language need to be authentic to be natural? How natural does a student’s English have to be to pass the new oral Matura? This talk will explore these questions while presenting some useful teaching materials, naturally.
