for THE EMERALD ISLE IN CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES
(a 4- hour workshop)

The Emerald Isle in Classroom Activities is a practical workshop aimed especially at secondary school teachers, who can find here a range of activities they can use in class.

However, teachers outside the target group will learn more about Ireland and enjoy the activities as well.
The first part of the seminar is devoted to the historical and cultural development of Ireland between 7500 BC and 1700 AD. I am going to introduce a few activities using pictures, gap-filling and matching exercises. This part of the session will be accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. The attendees will learn more about oratories, round towers and how the English started settling in Ireland.
The roots of conflicts in Ireland will be discussed in the second part of the session, which will focus on Irish culture.

Here the participants are going to work with songs (Molly Malone, If We Only Had Old Ireland Over Here), pictures and photographs, multiple choice questions and quizzes concentrating on Irish history, geography, literature and music. Of course I am going to invite the attendees to discuss the questions in the quizzes.
Remember, St. Patrick's day, a national holiday in Ireland, is coming!!!
The workshops are free for IATEFL members.
The registration fee for non-IATEFL members is 20 PLN.
All teachers wishing to join IATEFL Poland are required to pay the annual membership fee, which is 75 PLN for the year 2009, membership of one of the SIGs included. The membership fee can be paid at the meeting.
All the workshop participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
