An English lesson in the first grade has always been an adventure – on their first day at school students in their starched shirts and elegant skirts or trousers may look alike, but in fact they are as different as chalk and cheese. They have always come with different knowledge of English, different skills, concentration span and learning abilities. These days they are also of different age since you get 6 and 7-year-olds in one group.

We all know how important words are for our students. A wide range of vocabulary is key to successful communication and vital in supporting our students' ability to read, write, listen and speak. But we know that our students learn in different ways and some learn words more easily than others.

So how can we help our students remember words and, more importantly, how can we present vocabulary effectively? Come along to this session for some practical tips and techniques on how to make your vocabulary teaching meaningful and memorable.

Ewa Rumistrzewicz has been a teacher trainer for over 10 years. Since the launch of the educational reform in 1999 she has given been giving workshops and presentations to teachers of English. As a Teacher Training Manager at Oxford University Press she designs training programmes for teachers and writes ELT presentations. She also teaches history of children’s literature at the Jan Kochanowski University of Humanities and Sciences in Kielce.
Nina Lauder has been teaching at all levels since 1990 and for the past nine years has been involved in educational consulting and teacher training. She has given workshops all over Spain and has collaborated with the British Council and the Ministry of Education on professional development programmes. She has also led teacher training workshops in Croatia, Turkey, Serbia, Russia, Slovenia, Holland, Hungary, Egypt, Switzerland and Poland.

She is a materials writer for ELT and CLIL books and has published several articles. She currently works as a freelance author, teacher trainer and educational consultant.
