We’re going to take these and other questions as a starting point for reflection on the balance between effective exam preparation and teaching language skills for life, and how to achieve that balance with different groups of students. The session will include a number of practical activities and will also present Real Life, a new, flexible course book for upper secondary classes.

In the classroom, they have to sit at desks, work with the course book, write with a pen, and use the white board (or worse still, the blackboard). For them, functioning in the classroom context is like going back to the Stone Age. Although it is hard to imagine an English course without the course book, in this talk we will discuss how to supplement it with digital materials at hand.
