Dr Monika Cichmińska
has been teaching English for 20 years. After graduating from the University of Łódź, where she specialised in linguistics, she co-founded Progres, a private language school in Łódź, where she taught at all levels and was the Director of Studies. In 1999 she finished her doctorate in linguistics and moved to Olsztyn, where she works at the University of Warmia and Mazury. She also works for English Perfect, a private language school in Olsztyn, where she is the Director of Studies.
Apart from that, she likes to work as a teacher trainer for various institutions. She is also an oral examiner for UCLES (FCE, CAE and CPE).

Exam preparation? That’s pretty straightforward, isn’t it? You go through exam task types, end of story. What does it lead to? Exam success? Maybe. But almost certainly no motivation, boredom, repetitiveness, disruptive behavior. Just imagine you are an architect and with the help of your building blocks – a mixture of exam task types, revisions and all sorts of other activities – you can design your own elegant, balanced structure: a perfect lesson. From needs recognition, through selection of the building blocks/ teaching materials, and making
it personal and local, appropriate for your particular class, you can seek for interesting and effective lessons.

Beyond oral exam criteria, or what teachers can find there
How long do I have to talk? Is one sentence enough? Can I ask the examiners for help?
Can I get a high score even though my English is rather poor? Is there something I should avoid saying? If these are the sort of questions that bother you and your students, this session is for you as we will take a good look at the new oral matura exam criteria. It will be a unique opportunity to go beyond lengthy descriptions and see what it is all really about, what is expected from the students, and how their performance will be evaluated, step by step, word after word, sentence after sentence. I will also give you practical tips on how to translate these criteria into everyday classroom practice and matura preparation. And, of course, I will provide the answers to all the questions above.
