Our guest speaker/presenter is MARIANNE RAYNAUD* from Grenoble, France who will lead us through and give fantastic lesson tips on:

TEACHING THE ENGLISH OUR STUDENTS NEED AND WANT!

This professional development session for ESL teachers will be devoted to "reviewing basic
notions", "improving speaking skills" and "promoting creativity". If time permits we will also
deal with "evaluation of oral expression". Hands-on training will enable participants to
experience exercises from the student's point of view in order to implement them directly into
their own programs. A twenty-page handout of ready-to-use-in-the classroom materials will
be furnished, and electronic files of exercises will be made available on request. Films from
an educational DVD with students interacting in class will be used to demonstrate activities.
Films, written, directed and produced by students will also be shown. References to
worthwhile Web sites will complete this two-day program.

*Marianne Raynaud taught twenty-four years at France's largest technological university,
INPG, winning the prestigious Palmes Académiques for innovations in teaching ESL.
She founded www.QualityTime-ESL.com to help emerging teachers and others looking for
more effective ways of teaching foreign languages. She airs two podcasts series Better
Speaking Skills and Your English on iTunes and conducts TESOL workshops internationally.
Marianne has written QualityTime-ESL:
The Digital Resource Book, which provides an extensive toolbox with more than 1,500 files
of teaching materials from which teachers can freely choose. Marianne is especially
interested in individualizing teaching, helping students enjoy lab work and writing exercises
that correspond to student needs. She has done considerable work on student films-a means of
bringing out the creative side in ESL learners. A resident of France, she identifies as a citizen
of the world. Marianne is the present coordinator of TESOL France-Grenoble.
