In this session we are going to investigate effective techniques of storytelling, using role plays, arts and crafts and various games in a big group of learners with different levels of maturity. We will look at the teacher as a manager and a guide helping children cope with the tasks. We will see English education in the lower primary sector as an exciting walk through a jungle with young explorers eager to absorb knowledge and have lots of fun on the way.

Some of them need to jump around, scream and shout, others want to paint or simply be princesses or Batmen. Yes, in our profession, we are all conscious of the importance of the individual learner and their particular needs and abilities. At the same time, most of us teach groups that are often as numerous as 20 or even 25 young learners and we have to manage the whole classroom.

During the workshop, we will remind ourselves of some of the aspects of the new Matura format and task types, and see how the 3 Ms – Motivation, Memorisation and Meaningful context and practice can work together to prepare for a successful performance on the big day. The session will contain lots of easy to prepare practical ideas and tips, and will be illustrated with material taken from Pearson’s new Matura Focus course.
