Ship or sheep? That is the question. This workshop will focus on the mechanics and practice of fluid, natural-sounding pronunciation. The aim is to make oneself understood instantly, be it on the phone or at an important presentation, whilst minimising the need for embarrassing repetition or clarification. Issues of sound, stress and tone will all be addressed in the hope of producing English that is as confident and natural as possible in its delivery.

English is no longer simply the language of the British Isles. Through the legacy of the British Empire and, later, the rise of the United States of America as the world’s pre-eminent superpower, English has become the international lingua franca. From Singapore to Canada to Hong Kong, English is spoken as a native language, and throughout the rest of the world it is the language both of business and of international friendship and co-operation. As it continues to evolve far beyond the boundaries of Great Britain, this session attempts to explore the many and varied ways that English continues to adapt to an ever-changing world.

Around the world, different cultures, countries and communities have their own traditions to celebrate the Easter holiday. As Catholics and Protestants gather in churches across the globe to commemorate the resurrection of Christ, people everywhere are celebrating in their own ways by eating chocolate bunnies, going on Easter egg hunts or even pretending to be crime detectives.

This workshop will tell the story of British art and promote the achievements of the very best British artists by introducing participants to art based vocabulary through listening, pronunciation work and dictation. These paintings will then be brought to life as we recreate some of the famous scenes and allow an opportunity to make our own artworks using some of the British artist techniques.
