W co, po co i jak się bawić na zajęciach języka angielskiego w klasach 1– 3?!
Zabawa uczy. To prawda – ale czy każda? I czy każda w równym stopniu? Czy lekcja angielskiego staje się automatycznie lepsza wtedy, gdy dzieciaki więcej się bawią...? Jak potrzebę zabawy uzasadnić ważnym dorosłym: dyrektorowi szkoły (którego być może drażni hałas na angielskim...), rodzicom
(którzy być może woleliby poważną naukę gramatyki od pierwszej klasy...), a może też samym sobie (choć może nie do końca lubimy leżenie z dziećmi na dywanie czy przebieranie się za śmieszne stwory...)?
Na takie właśnie superważne pytania odpowiadamy w tej superpraktycznej sesji. Minimum teorii, maksimum sprawdzonych, autorskich pomysłów na to, w co się bawić na angielskim, ile się bawić i jak się bawić, żeby ta zabawa miała jasny cel językowy i ogólnorozwojowy, żeby naprawdę
angażowała dzieciaki, a jednocześnie pomagała uczyć języka! Nauczysz się, jak dobierać gry i zabawy, aby tworzyć mądre, skuteczne i angażujące lekcje języka angielskiego dla najmłodszych, bazując przede wszystkim na znakomitym podręczniku i materiałach uzupełniających.

11.30 – 12.40 Smart lesson planning and learner-friendly teaching in upper-primary school
Upper primary learners are a very tricky kind, aren’t they? We need to respect their childlike needs, abilities, and natural age-related limitations,in order to help them make a successful transition from grades 1-3. But at the very same time we also need to build their linguistic resources so that – in five years’ time – they will be able to face the challenge of the new school-leaving exam. And so we need to gradually ease them into
more serious, cognitively demanding mode of language learning. How can we be brainy about such a complex task?
That’s where I’ll try to help out in this session. I’ll offer lots of tips for how to plan English lessons really smartly. I’ll show how to blend engaging, multi-modal, appealing content and in-class activities, with more mature, analytical, focused language study – to help our learners stay on task and really understand how language works. I’ll also argue for systematic, smart (micro)-recycling that will help learners remember a lot more a lot
longer.

12:50 – 14:00 Mind the gap. Strategic exam preparation for grades 7–8
Ask just about any 8th grader – as well as his or her teacher – and they would most likely tell you that this year’s exam was “quite easy”. Was it really? Not if you consider the official results across the country, including the very poor score average. What do we make of this gap between expectation and disappointing reality? And, more importantly, what should we do in order not to fall into that gap ever again?
In this session I’ll start out by looking at this year’s exam results very carefully, to identify crucial problem areas that we need to address. This will give us a natural starting point for thinking about specific in-class preparation strategies. I’ll suggest that we should orient ourselves and our learners towards a more spaced out approach, with a lot more focus on seemingly basic language structures, to help learners gain sufficient confidence and
precision – and a significant degree of accuracy, indispensable when the exam day comes.
