The workshop will briefly cover the test format and the range of task types that students may encounter. We will then look at some examples of key areas in the assessment criteria and how these are realised in student writing at different levels. The workshop will make use of course book activities to demonstrate some of the strategies, skills and language areas that can be drawn from the IELTS Writing criteria. It will also suggest classroom activities that can be used to further practise the IELTS Writing requirements and help students reach their target band score.

VANESSA JAKEMAN has been an EFL Teacher for 7 years. She lived in Hong Kong for 10 years teaching EFL, working for the Hong Kong Examinations Authority as a Subject Officer. She has also worked for UCLES, (4 years on IELTS and as Group Manager for the ‘special exams’).
