In the last few days we have received e-mails from teachers and trainers who still wish to submit proposals for the conference. They have requested an extension to the submission date because of the summer holidays.

Please note therefore that the closing date for submitting proposals for the 5th International IATEFL Poland ESP SIG & BESIG Conference in Lublin in January will now be 8th October 2017. Confirmation of acceptance will then be given by 31st October 2017.

Below please find some information about this year’s conference.

In both English for Specific Purposes and Business English there is an increasing degree of specialization as a result of the changing language needs in vocational and academic contexts. This is reflected in course design, methodology and course materials, and leads to the question as to how specific these two important areas of TEFL can and should be. In order to provide a wider forum for an in-depth discussion of this question and to demonstrate the various specialized areas that are on offer, the motto for the January 2018 Conference in Lublin will be

“How Specific does English for Specific Purposes and Business English Need to Be”.

The first four IATEFL Poland ESP SIG conferences held in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 gave practitioners the opportunity to present best-practice examples from their individual fields, and proved themselves as a forum for spreading innovative ideas on the teaching of English for academic and vocational purposes.


The 5th Conference to be held in January 2018, which is aimed at ESP and Business English professionals across Europe, is intended to provide a platform that offers a comprehensive overview of the various areas of ESP and BE, covering methods, materials, media and assessment. All ESP and BE stakeholders in further and higher education, e.g. educational establishments, teachers, teacher trainers, publishers and test providers, are invited to participate.
As was the case in the previous four conferences, it will again be possible to offer the option of giving presentations online.
