Richard Mullaney
Richard Mullaney is our very charismatic Irishman, who has been working with Learning Without Borders since 2008. After finishing college, studying Youth & Community Work, he started working full-time with Learning Without Borders providing a range of different talks and workshops whilst also performing in the Wild About Oscar play. Each summer he has worked for a variety of summer schools in both Scotland and England as part of the Activities team management. This has included running Ceilí dances, Discos, as well as excursions to various cities. In Ireland he also worked as a restaurant manager in one of Dublin’s busiest bars, House Dublin. However, he is now back performing in Poland, Italy and Estonia.

Traditional Ireland is solely devoted to Ireland, it’s traditions and cultures. Richie Mullaney will take students on quick journey through 10,000 years of Celtic history and describe in full detail the strange cuisine. He’ll explain the much misunderstood “drunken Irishman” stereotype and pub culture and students will also learn about Irish food and drink and The Irish language of Gaelic, among a variety of other topics. Richie is able to provide the best spirit and the mentality of the Irish, always looking optimistically into reality.

Lights, camera, action! You and your students will travel into the world of cinema where they will learn more about Irish history, culture and comedy. Where did the Irish fit into the legend of Braveheart? Help you and your students get a better grasp of the Northern Irish troubles through “In The Name of The Father”, see the historical spotlight on Ireland during the 1950s in Angela’s Ashes and more! This session, facilitated by Richie Mullaney from Dublin, is sure to give your students a new understanding of the Irish, of cinema in the past and the present and show them that their mind truly is a palace!

Richie Mullaney, from Dublin, will take students through the Irish rebellion of 1916 in honour of its centennial anniversary. Learn how the Irish gained their freedom after 800 years of suppression under British rule, and how this little island became famous for its passion and its pride.

The Ireland 2 session is aimed at teenage students. Richie will describe the different youth cultures of Ireland, interacting constantly with the students on a comparative level. The aim is to give the students an idea of similarities and differences of teenage life abroad and the different levels of acceptance and diversity within the Dublin class structure. He will teach the students some of the famous vocabulary of Ireland used by teenagers so students learn how to converse like a local in Dublin’s fair city of the Emerald Isle!
