Kursy Teaching Young Learners i Teaching Teenagers przygotowane przez Oxford University Press są skorelowane z EAQUALS Framework of Language Teacher Training and Development i certyfikowane przez Oxford University Department for Continuing Education.

Good listening skills are vital and students who find listening hard inevitably have problems with pronunciation and speaking.

This session starts by examining what is happening when learners listen to English, and then briefly reviews classroom practice for listening activities, and how to get the best from the listening exercises in our coursebooks.

Finally, the session explores listening exercises on iTools and Oxford Online Practice, since these mean that students can do the listening at home.

Being able to speak in English is one of their main language learning goals of many students. Why, then, do so many of them find speaking so difficult?

We'll begin this workshop by briefly looking at the nature of spoken language. Next we'll explore various practical steps we can take as language teachers in order to teach speaking in an effective way for all learners, including our weaker, more timid students.

Special attention will be given to how to deal with mistakes when learners are involved in speaking activities.

Listen and learn: starting from the spoken word

To become a good communicator, you must first become a good listener.

Listening is a key skill, which can also serve as a springboard for developing productive skills, expanding a learner’s vocabulary and awareness of grammatical structures.

We explore the multiple roles of listening through a variety of classroom activities.

Productive skills are often considered difficult to develop.

What are the ingredients of success in communication and in speaking exams? How can we help learners master speaking with the help of the Oxford Matura Trainer?

The workshop will offer some practical activity ideas to develop skills for typical speaking exam tasks.

Listening and beyond! Supporting listening in our classes and using it to develop other language skills

Of all the four skills, listening may not actually be the most challenging for teenagers – writing probably is – but it feels the hardest. And this sense of challenge is very important when working with teenagers.

This session will underline why listening matters so much in the classroom and how it can be a springboard to other language practice. We will explore what makes listening feel so challenging to the students and what we can do to ease that sense of challenge.

"How can I make teenagers speak?" is one of the most common questions that teachers working in secondary classrooms ask me.

My sense is that this challenge has two parts, the HOW and the WHAT. The 'how' - the grammar, syntax and vocabulary, are quite rightly the key focus for most teachers, but the 'what' can be rather neglected.

My session explores the assumption that the motivation to speak comes from familiarity with the topics combined with a need to communicate and exchange information.
